Introduction to Andong Cultural Tourism Complex
Andong, known as the "Capital of Korean Spiritual Culture," boasts over 2,000 years of history, beginning in 57 BC with the establishment of the Changnyeong Kingdom. Preserving its splendid cultural heritage, Andong is often referred to as "The Korean Hometown of Confucius and Mencius" (공맹지향, 孔孟之鄕) or "The Land of Zhu and Lu" (추로지향, 鄒魯之鄕). With 280 cultural treasures from various eras, including numerous wooden architectural assets such as Confucian academies, ancestral homes, and pavilions, the city is admired as an "Open-Air Museum Without a Roof," drawing visitors from around the globe.
The Andong Cultural Tourism Complex is a core project under the North Gyeongbuk Province's 11-city/county Confucian Cultural Tourism Development Plan, initiated in 2000. Designed to create a central lodging and leisure hub, the complex aims to interconnect and develop scattered tourism resources across northern inland Gyeongbuk Province, serving as a key driver for cultural tourism revitalization in the region.
Conveniently located near Andong's city center and Andong Dam, the complex offers picturesque views and is strategically positioned to connect world-renowned Confucian and traditional cultural assets, including Dosan Seowon, Hahoe Village, Juwangsan National Park, Cheongnyangsan, and Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park. It continues to evolve as a stay-type, multi-purpose leisure complex.
