General Overview
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization (GCTO) was established as a provincial public enterprise by taking over the former Gyeongbuk Tourism Development Corporation, which had been developing and managing tourist complexes. The organization is now tasked with leading Gyeongsangbuk-do’s future core industry of tourism and further positioning itself as a pioneer in Korean tourism.
GCTO currently develops, manages, and operates the Bomun Tourist Complex, Gampo Tourist Complex, and the Andong Cultural Tourism Complex. The Bomun Tourist Complex, designed to reflect the historical characteristics of the Gyeongju region, is a comprehensive tourism and leisure destination featuring hot spring districts, a tourism special zone, luxury hotels, international conference facilities, amusement facilities, and a golf club. The Gampo Tourist Complex, connected to the Bomun Tourist Complex, is under development as a hub for marine leisure facilities along the East Coast and a key attraction in the Southeastern tourism zone.
Additionally, the Andong Cultural Tourism Complex utilizes the Confucian, traditional, and cultural assets spread across the northern Gyeongsangbuk-do region. It is being developed as a tourism and leisure destination, with major facilities such as the Confucian Culture Experience Center and Andong Hue Green Golf Course currently preparing to open.
Going forward, GCTO aims to act as a control tower for tourism in Gyeongsangbuk-do by attracting 3 million foreign tourists and expanding collaborative projects with the 23 cities and counties in the province. It will focus on seamlessly executing integrated development projects for the three major cultural regions—Silla, Gaya, and Confucianism—as well as implementing large-scale tourism development plans for the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range, Nakdong River, and the East Coast.
Moreover, GCTO plans to establish a robust foundation for the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry, aspiring to place Gyeongsangbuk-do among the top five convention hubs in Korea. Furthermore, GCTO will dedicate itself to developing distinctly Korean tourism products and discovering premium tourism content unique to Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Through these efforts, it seeks to elevate the region’s tourism status, assuming a leading role as the centerpiece of Korean tourism. GCTO pledges to make its utmost efforts to become a true public enterprise committed to this mission. We sincerely ask for your continued encouragement and support.
